How to Make Lavender Candles

This step by step tutorial makes 2 candles in 4 oz jars – increase as needed if you want to make more.

These lavender scented candles make great handmade gifts, so once you’ve tried your first batch you may want to make a whole lot to give as gifts for friends and family.

Candle Making Supplies

To make your own Lavender candles you will need…

  • 200 grams, or 7 ounces of soy wax flakes (2 bags if using the kit
  • Melting pot
  • Mixing spoon
  • Shallow saucepan filled with ½ inch of water
  • 30 drops lavender essential oil
  • 4oz jars x2
  • Cotton wick x2
  • Glue dot x2
  • Center device x2
  • ½ tsp dried lavender buds

You can buy this candle making kit that has most of the supplies, except for the lavender buds and essential oil, if that makes it easier.

Directions: How To Make DIY Lavender Candles

Add the soy wax flakes to the melting pot, and set that inside the shallow saucepan filled with ½ inch of water.

Heat over a low heat, stirring the mixture often, until the wax is fully melted.

While the wax is melting, attach a glue dot to the bottom of the inside of each 4 oz jar, and then press the wick into it.

Set the center device on top of the jar, over the wick, then push the wick into the slot.

Remove the wax from heat. Add your lavender essential oil and stir well.

Pour into candle jars and let set for 20 minutes or so.

Next, add the lavender buds to the top of the candle.

Allow the candles to fully set, undisturbed, for about 12 hours.

Once candles are set, trim the wick to the top of the center device with a scissors.

This step is really important for safety, when making candles. You do not want to leave your wick untrimmed, allowing it to burn too close to the glass.
