In this article, we’re exploring how spiritual healing can provide comfort and guidance through divorce.

From the first talk of separation to the final divorce settlement, going it alone – particularly after a long marriage – can leave us feeling vulnerable and isolated with many people suffering a loss of purpose and direction.

In this article, we’re explaining how spiritual healing can provide comfort and guidance through divorce – and beyond.

What Forms of Spiritual Healing Exist?

Spiritual healers believe that in order to heal the body, you have to first heal the soul. Spiritual practitioners claim to have the power to harness positive energy from the universe in order to restore harmony to the mind, body and soul of their clients. Spiritual healing can take a number of forms, including:

Reiki

Originating in India over 2500 years ago, Reiki (pronounced ray-kee) is an extremely popular form of spiritual healing and involves a practitioner using their hands as well as ancient and powerful symbols to promote healing in their clients.

There are around one million Reiki practitioners who are active around the world as well as countless clients who swear by this type of healing.

Crystals

Crystals are stones or rocks which consist of minerals arranged in a repeating pattern and are often shiny or sparkly in nature as well as coming in many different colours. While some people enjoy wearing crystals as jewelry, others believe that they have mystical healing powers which can restore balance and harmony.

Practitioners believe that each and every crystal has a unique energy and vibration which they will study to find the right crystal for a particular client’s ailment.

Meditation

The ancient art of meditation is a mindfulness tool designed to focus the mind and to shut out your surroundings in order to find peace. It’s thought that up to 500 million people worldwide practice meditation on a regular basis and this type of healing is even prescribed by doctors in some countries.

Soul Retrieval Healing

While this may sound like something from a Hollywood movie but it’s not (although it is practiced by some A-listers including Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow). Soul retrieval practitioners believe that, in some instances, their clients’ physical and mental health issues are caused by a part of their soul being lost.

Practitioners use a number of different methods, including hands-on healing and chakras, which they claim will retrieve and reclaim the lost part of the soul to make the client whole again.

Chakras

Spiritual practitioners often believe that the human body is made up of energy centres known as chakras which can, at times, fall out of balance causing physical and mental health issues.

Chakra healing can involve practices such as yoga, Reiki and meditation (or a combination of these) which help to balance the chakras and help the client reclaim a sense of calm.

Spiritual Healing and Divorce

During a marriage, particularly a long one, we tend to form a new identity which fits that relationship. When the relationship breaks down and you’re faced with the prospect of going it alone, this triggers a grieving process which brings with it a number of negative emotions including:

  • Sadness
  • Denial
  • Anger
  • Regret

While some are able to manage these emotions and move on with their lives, others can feel adrift and isolated as well as suffering an identity crisis as a newly single person.

In extreme cases, this melting pot of emotions can lead to some serious mental health issues including anxiety and depression which may have long-lasting effects.

As we’ve detailed in this article, there are various types of spiritual healing available; most of which are designed to target some of the emotions caused by divorce including stress, anxiety, sadness and a general feeling of being set adrift from our lives.

This type of healing can help to promote a more positive mindset and teach you how to shake off the past. Spiritual healing is not, of course, a magic wand – you might – and should – still feel sadness regarding your divorce but you should also feel better equipped to manage those feelings.

How to Find a Spiritual Healer

If you are looking for a local healer with a view to a face to face appointment, it’s a good idea to ask for recommendations or, failing that, try your local council’s website or local social media groups.

If you prefer not to have physical meetings, you can find lots of online healers with a quick search – and these will allow you to benefit from spiritual healing from the comfort of your own home.

Spiritual healing to help cope with divorce…

Spiritual healing can be a great tool for helping you to navigate your way through your divorce and, depending on the type of healing you choose, you may even make some new friends along the way (while an early morning yoga class may seem daunting, this can be a brilliant way of meeting new people).

While spiritual healing can have lots of benefits, it’s not a medical science – therefore, if you are suffering from a form of mental health issue because of your divorce, you should always seek the advice of a qualified mental health professional.
